The Lindsay Park-trained Seaburge is the narrow favourite to win the Starlight Express Room Stakes 2016 at Flemington Racecourse this weekend in Melbourne.

Running as the third race on the bumper nine-event Makybe Diva Stakes Day program on Saturday, this year’s $120,000 Listed Starlight Express Room Stakes (1400m) has attracted a final field of 14 three-year-olds.

Early favourite in the markets for Flemington Race 3 at 1:35pm (AEST) through Ladbrokes.com.au at $6 is the David & Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained Seaburge.

He carries the equal 58kg top weight with two other runners in the set weights plus penalties clash and is drawn just better than mid-field with barrier six.

Mark Zahra continues his association with the Sebring colt who chases his second win from as many starts at the track following the three-quarter length victory in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) here in March.

He ran once more in the autumn when sixth to Yankee Rose, who resumes in Sydney’s $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on Saturday, in the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.

First-up Seaburge retuned to Melbourne and finished three lengths away fourth to Defcon, favourite for Saturday’s Group 2 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington, in the Group 3 H.D.F. McNeil Stakes (1200m).

Second-up Seaburge should be improving and he will relish the return to 1400m and Flemington.

Hot on his heels in Starlight Express Room Stakes betting this Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival at $6.50 is his well-supported stablemate Inspired Estelle, backed in early from an opening quote of $9.

Jumping from barrier five with Damian Lane aboard, the More Than Ready filly has won four of her five career starts to date.

Her sole loss was on debut at Ballarat back in June and she has been progressing very nicely since including a last start 1.5 length win over this track and distance on August 5.

Zunbaqa drops from 57kg that run to 54kg this weekend and looks a livewire hope to beat home the boys from the wide alley in Black-Type company.

Another market mover in from $11 to $7 and jumping from barrier three is the John O’Shea-trained Medaglia D’Oro colt Tessera.

Godolphin’s classy youngster is a Group 3 winner in Sydney from the summer who is out to improve on his first-up seventh to 2016 Golden Rose-running stablemate Astern in the Group 2 The Run To The Rose (1200m).

The stable has opted to take Tessera south this weekend for the first time, jockey Craig Williams booked for the ride.

The other single-figure fancies are Good Standing ($8.50) and Throssell ($9.50) drawn in barriers four and 10 respectively.

Good Standing is another Sydney raider taking on the Victorian three-year-olds in this Listed clash, the James Cummings-trained Artie Schiller colt coming off a ninth in the Run To The Rose.

As a two-year-old he enjoyed a Group 2 win in Randwick’s Skyline Stakes (1200m) and is twice Group 1 performed in the Golden Slipper (10^th) and ATC Sires’ (5^th).

Jockey Dwayne Dunn jumps aboard for the first time on Saturday and told Racing Victoria he had respect for the galloper.

“[Good Standing is] another one coming down from Sydney trying to get away from wet tracks, and they might get another wet one,” he said.

“Nice form in Sydney, and deserves a lot of respect in this race.”

Throssell meanwhile is prepared by Ciaron Maher and won the Listed Anzac Day Stakes (1400m) here back in April before a first-up third to Ken’s Dream at Moonee Valley in the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m) on August 20.
