Snippets Land has returned to racing in great form this time and has been included in 2016 Civic Stakes nominations by trainers Peter and Paul Snowden.
Posting six race wins and as many minors through his twenty-two starts so far, Snippets Land clearly required a run when returning to competition in February for seventh in the Gardenia Handicap (1600m), but responded with a smart performance for second in the Listed Members’ Cup (1600m).
Freshened up with a view towards the Brisbane Winter Carnival, the son of Snippetson placed fourth in the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) on March 26th; arriving north of the border for second in the Listed Prime Minister’s Cup (1400m) before taking out the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m) on May 21st.
Having since placed a credible fifth in the Group 2 QTC Cup (1300m) on June 11th, Snippets Land should prove particularly tough to beat under the conditions of the Civic Stakes should he draw favourably on Wednesday.
Ninth Legion also posted stakes success during the Brisbane Winter Carnival and has been included in 2016 Civic Stakes nominations.
Posting a number of standout results for Team Hawkes through several strong preparations, Ninth Legion has been transferred to the care of Peter Robl for 2016 and is starting to return to serious form at black type level.
Failing to make much of an impact through his first two starts, the Fastnet Rock gelding clearly had the class edge when he savaged the line for a comfortable one length win in the Listed Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich on June 18th.
Royal Island is capable an impressive performance on his day, and has been included in 2016 Civic Stakes nominations by trainer John Salanitri.
Claiming six wins and seven minors through twenty-four career starts, Royal Island was unlucky not to defend his crown in the Listed Wangoom Handicap (1200m) at Warrnambool first-up on May 4th.
Failing to figure in the late stages of the A Sheppard Constructions Handicap (1250m), the Dubawi gelding ran on for second in the Golden Topaz (1200m) last time out on June 10th.
Vergara has secured plenty of strong results this year and is set to have her first start for Gerald Ryan in the 2016 Civic Stakes.
Running fourth in each of the Group 3 Triscay Stakes (1200m) first-up, Vergara again finished just outside the places in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes (1400m) before a luckless run for ninth in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m).
Returning to winning form in the Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m), the Snippetson mare produced a particularly smart performance to run fourth in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) on Day 1 of The Championships, and returned to the paddock after placing sixth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) a week later.
The 2016 Civic Stakes field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
