Tsaritsa a Serious Tattersall’s Tiara Prospect

Three-year-old Tsaritsa showed her class with a comfortable win in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday, and may be set for an appearance in the 2016 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) in a fortnight.

Tsaritsa has more than stamped herself as a filly to follow for leading trainer Chris Waller through her short racing career to date; claiming four wins and two minors in seven starts since debuting in December.

Waller was understandably pleased with Tsaritsa’s successful transition to black type company in the Queensland Guineas, and revealed he is seriously considering saddling the three-year-old in the 2016 Tattersall’s Tiara in a fortnight.

“If the market dictates that she is a $5 chance in the Tatts Tiara, we would give it serious consideration,” Waller told Racing Victoria.

“I don’t want to lead people in the wrong direction. I am seriously considering it but we will just let the dust settle and see who is likely to be in the race before confirming our plans.”

Leading Hong Kong hoop Joao Moreira partnered Tsaritsa in the Queensland Guineas and is confident the filly will only improve through seasons to come.

“Her acceleration was impressive, I like what she was able to do out there,” Moreira said.

“Not everything went her way, she had a bit to do and I was impressed with how she found the line.

“She was strong at the mile and I believe she has a bright future.”

Waller said a path similar to that contested by Winx in 2015 will likely materialise for Tsaritsa when she returns during the 2016 Spring Carnival.

“She would only have a little let-up before the spring, much like what we did with Winx last year,” Waller said.

“She is quite an exciting filly, we have taken our time with her, this was only her seventh start and the first time we have stepped her up to stakes grade.”

Tsaritsa is yet to taste anything but success this time, having taken out each of the Schweppes BM67 (1250m) and Pat Hyland BM75 (1400m) leading into her Queensland Guineas triumph.
