Fifteen runners have been confirmed to Saturday’s Listed Tails Stakes (1600m) on the Sunshine Coast; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Sir Moments has returned to racing in typically smart form this time and remains outright $2.70 favourite in 2016 Tails Stakes betting markets with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Lock’s Legend ($5.50) and Adorabeel ($8).
Will Sir Moments continue his winning run of form through the Tails Stakes or will his race-high 61kgs weighting defeat his chances?
1st
Sir Moments ($2.70)
Regardless of his heavy weight, Sir Moments is undoubtedly the class horse of the 2016 Tails Stakes field and will be very hard to beat from the ideal barrier 7, with regular hoop Paul Hammersley aboard. Winner of last year’s edition of the Tails Stakes, the Choisir gelding progressed to a close second in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) before injury forced an end to his campaign. Resuming this time for second in the Gold Coast Stakes (1200m) on March 12th, Sir Moments has since finished fourth in the Maker’s Mark Handicap (1350m) and won the Qpos Handicap (1350m).
2nd
Tarloshan ($31)
Tarloshan has priceless experience at the highest level of racing and is a proven performer over the distance of the Tails Stakes. Posting six wins and a further three minors through seventeen career starts, the Istidaad mare has steadily built to the task this time; running thirteenth in the Gold Coast Stakes first-up before improving for eighth in the Pop Culture Handicap (1630m) last time out. Tarloshan is drawn ideally in barrier 6 and will carry only 54kgs in the Tails Stakes.
3rd
Avalanches ($34)
The always-present Avalanches relishes racing on the Sunshine Coast, and will leave from the ideal barrier 3 with only 54kgs in tow. Beginning his career under the guidance of Peter Snowden at Darley before being purchased and transferred to the care of Trevor Bailey, the Street Cry gelding ended a typically competitive 2015 campaign a close second in the Fat Lady Has Sung BM80 (1800m) on the Gold Coast in October. Resuming this time for sixth in the Gold Coast Stakes, Avalanches ran on well despite being hampered for a run when sixth in the Pop Culture Handicap last time out.
