Peter Moody will saddle-up Abidewithme in Saturday’s Frances Tressady Stakes 2016 field at Flemington Racecourse with the six-year-old leading early betting markets on the Australian Guineas Day event.
A total of 13 fillies and mares line-up in this season’s $150,000 Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m) that as set to run as penultimate event on a nine-race Flemington program at 5:10pm (AEDT).
Despite having had just the one unplaced run at the track when beaten four and a quarter lengths to cross 10th to Politeness in the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) on Victoria Derby Day last start, Abidewithme is top of the current Frances Tressady Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au.
She pays $4.80 to win after drawing well in barrier two, Glen Boss to ride the first-up flyer who has won three of her four resuming runs to date.
The next best in Frances Tessady Stakes betting at $5.50 is the 57kg top weight Wawail jumping from a wide barrier 11 draw with top name hoop Damien Oliver booked for the ride.
The David Hayes & Tom Dabernig-trained mare is a four-year-old daughter of Lonhro who has a strong Flemington record of two wins, a second and a third at the track to date.
Her latest run here was on Melbourne Cup Day in November when runner-up to Scarlet Billows in the Group 3 Maybe Mahal Stakes (1400m).
Wawail has run fourth and sixth respectively in Group 3 company again first and second-up this Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival, the latest seeing her still only beaten two and a half lengths by Azkadellia in the Mannerism at Caulfield on seven days ago on Saturday.
Three other runners are under $10 for the win including Choose ($6.50) in gate six for jockey Craig Newitt, the Lee & Shannon Hope-trained Starcraft five-year-old coming off a Mannerism Stakes eighth.
It was a close run in the Blue Diamond Stakes Day race last Saturday and Choose was just two and a half lengths winner after a third the start before when crossing a half-length to Tuscan Sling in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m).
Rounding out the hopes at single figures are early market mover Jessy Belle ($8) in barrier five and My Sister Lil who has also been backed in early from $12 right into $9.
Luke Oliver saddles-up Rock Of Gibraltar five-year-old Jessy Belle who has won two of her seven runs at Flemington so far, but who hasn’t won anywhere since July last year.
She was first-up in the Bellmaine on February 13 when eighth, but is likely to improve off that run getting back to Flemington.
My Sister Lil has local jockey Mark Zahra riding on the weekend third-up as the John Price-trained Snitzel mare looks to go even closer than her half-length fourth in the Mannerism Stakes on the quick back-up.
At more generous odds after an upset Frances Tessady Stakes result this season include Pat Carey’s recent Listed WJ Adams Stakes (1000m) wining four-year-old Shakespearean Lass ($12) out in barrier 10, the Tony McEvoy-trained daughter of Redoute’s Choice Into The Mist ($14) drawn the outside alley and Boundary ($15) who was runner-up in the Group 3 Vamos Stakes (1400m) at Launceston in Tasmania last month.
