2016 Millie Fox Stakes Tips and Betting Preview

Seven mares have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse; offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.

Catkins is undoubtedly the class horse of the 2016 Millie Fox Stakes field and remains outright $2.15 favourite with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of First Seal ($3) and I’ve Got The Looks ($6).

Will Catkins justify favouritism and win the 2016 Millie Fox Stakes first-up or will one of her talented rivals find the line in the clear?

1st

Catkins ($2.15)

Catkins has posted an exceptional sixteen wins and thirteen minors through 37 career starts so far, flies fresh and will be very hard to beat in her defence of the Millie Fox Stakes. Catkins has been a standout through each of her Autumn Carnival preparations so far; winning each of the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) and Millie Fox Stakes upon resuming in 2015 before finishing second in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m). Returning to winning form in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m), the Dubawi mare ended her campaign second in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) during The Championships. Leading Sydney hoop Hugh Bowman takes the ride and will leave from the ideal barrier 4.

2nd

First Seal ($3)

First Seal is definitely a winning chance in the Millie Fox Stakes but after missing the Spring Carnival through injury, it’s hard to tell how the mare will perform first-up. A Group 1 winner having taken out the 2014 edition of the Flight Stakes (1600m), First Seal resumed last autumn for second in the Group 2 Light Fingers Stakes (1400m) before returning to winning form in the Group 2 Surround Sakes (1400m) in late February. Running second in each of the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) and Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m), First Seal placed sixth in the Queen Of The Turf Stakes in her most recent appearance and should receive a dream run first-up on Saturday from barrier 3, with Blake Shinn aboard.

3rd

Press Report ($14)

Press Report has been charged with carrying only 54kgs in the Millie Fox Stakes, carries good form into the race and arguably offers punters the best value for money at a quote of $14 for success or $5.30 to finish in the first three. Returning to the paddock following a long and busy eight start preparation in November, the daughter of Written Tycoon produced a scintillating turn of foot to finish a close second to Amicus in the Breeders’ Classic first-up this time and could very well receive the run of the race from barrier 2 in the Millie Fox Stakes.
