In-form hoop Josh Parr has picked up the gun ride on nine-year-old I’m Imposing in Saturday’s Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick with regular hoop Tye Angland confirmed to ride in the ‘State Of Origin Jockeys Series’ in Brisbane.
I’m Imposing has been a consistent performer since first appearing in course in the UK in 2008; posting a commendable seven wins and fifteen minors through a total of 45 competitive starts.
Angland has partnered I’m Imposing seventeen times competitively, including through a standout summer preparation in 2015 when the gelding won each of the Listed Festival Stakes (1500m) and Summer Cup and finished a close second to Rudy in the Villiers Stakes most notably.
Parr is understandably thrilled to have been given the ride on I’m Imposing in the 2015 Villiers Stakes and is hopeful he can repay trainer Chris Waller for the faith he has placed in him with success.
“I’m really looking forward to riding I’m Imposing on Saturday,” Parr told Racenet.
“He looks a really honest horse that puts in every time he goes around.
“Chris Waller dominates these Randwick miles so any opportunity to ride one for him is a good one.
“I’ll be going into the race with a lot of confidence.”
I’m Imposing was unable to make an impact when tenth in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) in a solitary autumn start upon resuming this year and was instead kept for a campaign through the Brisbane Winter Carnival.
Arriving north for third in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) on the Gold Coast on April 25th, the Danehill Dancer gelding continued to impress when third in both the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) and Group 3 Premier’s Cup (1600m) but failed to beat a single runner home in the Group 2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m) and was returned to the paddock.
Clearly requiring a couple of runs to find form upon resuming in spring, I’m Imposing placed ninth in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) and eighth in the Group 2 Shannon Stakes (1500m) before running third in the Group 3 Craven Plate (2000m) on October 3rd.
Having received a brief freshen-up following that start, I’m Imposing is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from placing eighth in the Festival Stakes a fortnight ago.
The 2015 Villiers Stakes final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
