Weather to Confirm Ballarat Cup for Digitalism

John Sadler has been pleased with the form displayed by Digitalism through recent weeks despite a disappointing run for eleventh in the Group 3 Eclipse Stakes (1800m) over the weekend, and revealed showers will see the six-year-old accept into the field for Saturday’s 2015 Ballarat Cup (2200m).

Digitalism has posted a number of  impressive results for Sadler through his current campaign, undoubtedly highlighted by consecutive wins in the Follow The @ Willhillwolf Handicap (2040m) and Listed Cranbourne Cup (2025m) leading into the Eclipse Stakes.

Believing the classy son of Fastnet Rock to be far better on surfaces with a little cut, Sargent told Racing Ahead the six-year-old has pulled up well from his run at Sandown over the weekend and will contest the 2015 Ballarat Cup should conditions deem a berth warranted.

“We’ll see how the ground is – it was too firm for him on Saturday,” Sadler said.

“It sounds like I’m always whinging about the ground, but I just happen to have a few horses that enjoy the sting out of the ground at the moment.

“He wouldn’t let go on it at all, so I didn’t read too much into his disappointing run on Saturday.

“If the weather goes our way, and there’s a bit of give in the ground, he’ll run on Saturday.”

Digitalism has posted an impressive nine wins and eleven minors through 39 career starts so far; debuting to racing for Darren Weir in 2011 before being transferred to the care of Sadler partway through his 2014 campaign.

Clearly needed the run when sixth in the Echuca Cup (1400m) upon resuming in March this year, Digitalism quickly built to the task in running third in the Tatura Cup (1600m) before taking out the Jim’s Mowing Geelong BM78 (1700m) on April 22nd.

Placing second to Kenjorwood in the Momentum Energy Trophy (1800m) on May 9th, the gelding out of Indian Dream ran fourth in the Schweppes Handicap (1600m) before beating a particularly classy field to the line in the Dominant Handicap (2040m) on June 6th.

The 2015 Ballarat Cup final field and barrier draw is due to be completed and released by midday, Wednesday.
