Get The Picture Capable of Winning Victoria Derby

Trainer Stuart Webb has been thrilled with Get The Picture’s impressive rise to prominence this season and is confident the three-year-old will lay a great account for himself in Saturday’s featured 2015 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington.

Get The Picture debuted to racing for consecutive second place finishes in the Dwyers Volkswagen Maiden Plate (1200m) and City Of Ballarat Maiden (1400m) before breaking through for a maiden race win in the Hygain Maiden Plate (1600m) on September 20th.

Having made an impressive transition to black type company in running second in the Group 2 Bill Stutt Stakes (1600m) on October 2nd, the Excellent Art colt appears as though he will relish the 2500m of the 2015 Victoria Derby after hitting the line hard for fourth in the Group 3 Caulfield Classic (2000m) a fortnight ago.

Webb is confident Get The Picture’s run in the Caulfield Classic points towards a high-quality performance at Flemington on Saturday.

“He’s a really exciting young horse,” Webb told Racing Ahead.

“He hasn’t got a typical stayers physique, he’s got a nice shape about him. We weren’t always sure about the staying ability.

“He’s definitely shown us from the early days that he has above average ability.

“I thought he was the run of the race and his sections in it and the Stutt Stakes will back that up. Sometimes you can be the flattering horse because you’ve done nothing early and might just fly home late but both his runs have been strong right through to the line.”

Get The Picture will leave from the ideal barrier 5 in the 2015 Victoria Derby, and Webb is hopeful there will be enough early speed in the race for jockey Damien Oliver to find a good running position for the colt.

“We said that if we can be a couple either side of four we’d be happy, so we’re very happy,” Webb said.

“He drew wide in his last two runs and when we got beaten by Pay Up Bro we drew wide and ended up going back.

“I see no reason he can’t be in the third or fourth pair and if he can stay one off the fence to give himself some room it would be ideal.

“There will be a lot of jockeys out there desperately trying to make sure their horse gets the trip.

“With Ayers Rock he indicated he might go forward, Lizard Island went forward last start so I think there will be enough speed that it will be genuine enough.”
