This Saturday at Royal Randwick Racecourse the action of the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival continues with Spring Champion Stakes Day 2015, the full scratchings and track report detailed below.
It is a mostly sunny day trackside at Randwick today, October 10, with a top of 24 degrees and almost a zero chance of rain throughout the day meaning the current Good (3) rating of the course proper is set to stay.

The headline race on the agenda runs as Race 6 at 4:10pm (AEST) with a 10-horse field of three-year-olds set to face off in the 2015 Spring Champion Stakes including the Chris Waller-trained favourite through Ladbrokes.com.au Vanbrugh ($2.05).
There are great odds and promotions on offer all across the Sydney race card today at Ladbrokes including their exclusive Favourite vs Field markets, plus in Melbourne enjoy Best Tote or SP + 20% on the entire Caulfield Guineas Day card!
Total Scratchings: 4
Race 1 (1:10pm) – $85,000 Antler Luggage Kirkham Plate (1000m)
Two come out of the first leaving 10 two-year-olds all having their maiden run in this short sprint, the trial form of Star Turn for Team Hawkes too good to ignore when winning by nearly two lengths on September 29 over 900m. He’s drawn to run well again in gate two with Tommy Berry aboard hoping for another all-the-way effort on the $1.70 odds-on favourite and market mover.
Race 2 (1:50pm) – $85,000 Bowermans Office Furniture Handicap (1400m)
A middle-distance sprint for BenchMark 70 hopes here with nine in the mix including the early market mover Tremezzina ($2.90) for Chris Waller who comes off a close fourth when under a length off the winner in black-type company over this distance at Rosehill last start and the rails-drawn Bachelor Heir who won over 1200m at Newcastle last time out to take the Northern Meteor colt’s record to two wins from three starts.
Race 3 (2:25pm) – $85,000 TFE Hotels Handicap (1200m)
Eight left in the mix for this BenchMark 85 handicap where the markets are firmly led by the odds-on favourite Kasiano Lad, backed in from $2.60, who jumps from barrier two and returned from a length let-up with back-to-back wins firstly at Wyong and then here at Randwick by two lengths over the 1200m last month.
Race 4 (3:00pm) – $85,000 Cellarbrations October Handicap (1400m)
This handicap clash has 10 starters engaged with 54.5kg lightweight Music Magnate ($2.30) the one to beat in gate four, the Written Tycoon four-year-old coming off a win at Rosehill over the distance from September 26 when carrying three kilos more.
Race 5 (3:35pm) – $85,000 Myer Spring Fashion Handicap (2000m)
Eleven remain in the mix for this BenchMark 83 staying showdown after the top weight came out. The bookies have a wide open market on offer with the current favourite being Farolitos ($4.40) carrying a notable 60kg but coming off some nice lead-up at the track in similar company over the mile.
Race 6 (4:10pm) – $500,000 Group 1 Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes (2000m)
The headline race on the card pits 10 three-year-olds against each other, with all the punters’ love going to Waller’s in-form Encoasta De Lago colt Vanbrugh who comes off back-to-back wins including the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill on September 26. Was easily too good form them that day and should be again here from the mid-field barrier six draw.
Race 7 (4:50pm) – $125,000 Group 3 McGrath Estate Agents Angst Stakes (1600m)
The day’s other Group feature has a big 15-starter field of mares coming head-to-head including narrow favourite Ballet Suite who has been heavily backed in from $7.50 to $4.60 despite her wide barrier 12 draw, Waller’s four-year-old coming off to fifths over 1400m in Sydney.
Race 8 (5:30pm) – $85,000 Lindblad Expeditions Handicap (1600m)
A BenchMark 85 for the card closer featuring a dozen milers, the favourite of which at $2.70 is the rails-drawn Good Project from the Waller stable who has a big 60kg to overcome but very nice lead-up form including the win over Music Magnate late last month.
