Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes Tips and Betting Preview

A capacity and particularly talented field of eighteen plus emergencies has been confirmed for Saturday’s Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield; figuring as a particularly interesting race from a betting standout and offering plenty of value.

Lee and Anthony Freedman-trained Disposition ($3.80) has returned to racing in slick form this time and remains clear favourite in 2015 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of clear market mover Under The Louvre ($5.50, in from $8) and Stratum Star ($7).

Will Disposition justify favouritism and win the 2015 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, or will one of his many talented rivals post an upset?

1st

Lucky Hussler ($11)

A proven performer over course and distance, Lucky Hussler will have taken plenty of benefit from his first-up run for fourth in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) a fortnight ago and should receive a dream run in transit from barrier 2 in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes. Having capped a strong 2014 Spring Carnival campaign second in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m), the Husson gelding returned this year for success in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) before two luckless runs for mid-pack finishes. Confirmed to the partnered by regular hoop Glen Boss, Lucky Hussler arguably offers punters the best value for money at Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes odds of $11 for success.

2nd

Disposition ($3.80)

Disposition has been a strong and consistent performer through his short but impressive racing career so far, and should also experience a great run from barrier 3, with only 54kgs in tow in the 2015 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes. Taking out each of the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m) and Listed Fairetha Stakes (1400m) before running second in both the Group 2 WA Guineas (1600m) and Group 1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) through the 2014 Perth summer for Grant Williams, the Reset gelding was unlucky to miss his major Autumn Carnival targets this year through injury, but showed he has completely overcome all ailments when beating a handy field to the line by a length in the Listed The Sofitel (1400m) first-up on September 12th.

3rd

Gregers ($26)

Consistent mare Gregers has found typically good form leading into the 2015 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and looks likely to run a cheeky race with 2014-winning hoop Damien Lane aboard and a weighting of only 53kgs. Running an agonizingly-close second in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) before ending her autumn prep a credible sixth in the Group 1 The Goodwood (1200m), Gregers clearly needed the run when seventh in the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) first-up this time but charged home for third in the Bobbie Lewis Quality last time out.
