Look To The Stars was unable to make anything of an impact in her racing return on September 5th, however trainer Clarry Conners has been thrilled with the condition of the three-year-old and is confident she is ready for redemption on Saturday’s Listed Reginald Allen Quality (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Jumping from the gates only fairly in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) first-up, Look To The Stars was forced to settle off the pace of the race’s early leaders and spent the majority of her run in transit fighting jockey Luke Tarrant; failing to produce anything of a final straight sprint and finishing a distant last.
Conners was at odds as to why the daughter of I Am Invincible was unable to find in her return three weeks ago but is confident the conditions of the 2015 Reginald Allen Quality will suit the filly and is confident leading hoop Hugh Bowman will help her overcome a wide draw.
“I don’t know, she was just off that day,” Conners told AAP.
“She came out with her head in the air and she just wouldn’t settle back off the pace.
“She’s a funny filly, a bit of racing doesn’t hurt her.
“Her coat is coming out all the time and she’s doing well at home. I had some blood taken and everything was alright there.
“She’s just got to get a nice position in the run.
“I’d like to have drawn closer. The only thing in her favour there is she’s got the best rider on and hopefully he can slot in somewhere.”
Look To The Stars stamped her claims as a filly to watch when debuting for second behind Racy in the Pro-Ride Maiden Plate (1000m) on December 10th, and continued to impress when running on for second behind Perignon in the TAB Rewards Plate (1200m) a fortnight later.
Returning following a brief freshen-up for ninth in the Listed Lonhro Plate (1100m) on February 14th, Conners decision to bypass major two-year-old autumn targets with Look To The Stars paid dividends when a trip north for the Brisbane Winter Carnival heralded a fourth-place finish in the Group 3 Ken Russell Memorial (1200m), success in the Group 2 BRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1350m) and a close third in the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) on June 6th.
Conners remains confident Look To The Stars is a legitimate prospect for the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick next weekend, and the filly is sure firm noticeably if she can return to winning form in the Reginald Allen Quality.
Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best 2015 Reginald Allen Quality odds, for which Look To The Stars can be taken at a generous quote of $21 for success.
