Markets on the first at Royal Randwick on Warwick Stakes Day this weekend are now out with the Gary Portelli-trained Sebring Sun dominating betting on the three-year-old’s feature.
Kicking off the Sydney Saturday racing action at 12:35pm (AEST), this year’s $125,000 Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) features a field of eight hopefuls.
The current $2.50 top fancy in the latest Up And Coming Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is the in-form Sebring colt Sebring Sun shooting for three wins from as many starts this time in.
His latest success was in the Listed The Rosebud (1200m) at Randwick on August 8, and a victory for the punters this weekend will see his futures price for the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill on September 12 also firm.
It is a wide open affair in the Up And Coming Stakes odds this Sydney Spring Racing Carnival with Sebring Sun, drawn in gate five with Hugh Bowman booked to ride the market mover, joined on single-figures by four other runners.
The second elect at $4.80 is the rails-drawn Shards who James McDonald rides from barrier one on the weekend.
The John O’Shea-trained Medaglia D’Oro colt has had three runs so far, all in Sydney, most recently breaking his maiden status on June 13 at Rosehill over 1350m with Sam Clipperton in the saddle.
McDonald rode him for a third on debut at Canterbury in mid-May and is happy to reunite his association with the up-and-comer who is nominated for Melbourne’s $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on October 10.
Occupying the third line of Up And Coming Stakes betting at $6.50 is then Voilier drawn well in barrier two for Blake Shinn to ride Gary Nickson’s Beneteau gelding from.
Voilier has form around some very nice types over his five start career so fair including a second last time out when a length off Sebring Sun in The Rosebud.
He had the same gate two draw that day and is looking to close that margin and go one better when taking on his last start conqueror again in the Group 3 on Saturday.
Rounding out the hopefuls under $10 for the win are then Cannyescent ($7.50) who comes off a win on debut at Goulburn from the start of the month and Godolphin’s other runner Inner Circle ($8.50) last seen running third to Let’s Make It Rain at Canterbury in the mud on July 25.
The three other runners in the line-up are all still livewire chances as well with Paul Perry’s Rosebud fifth placed Tatoosh ($13), the Gerald Ryan-trained Fastnet Rock colt Land’s End ($15) and Manhattan Rain gelding Man Of Choice ($15).
