Griante will return to racing in Saturday’s Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Saturday, and trainer David Brideoake has revealed the race will figure as the mare’s first point of call ahead of a Spring Carnival campaign geared towards Group 1 success.

A strong and consistent performer for the Mornington-based trainer since first appearing on track in early 2013, Griante undoubtedly found career-best form to date through the recent Autumn Carnival; highlighted by an impressive third in the Group 1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) on March 27th.
Pleased with the condition of the Good Journey mare ahead of Saturday’s 2015 Regal Roller Stakes, Brideoake told AAP he is confident the five-year-old’s most recent preparation points towards further success this time.
“I thought she was outstanding last time in and there’s no reason to think she has not come back equally as good,” Brideoake said.
“She’ll run in one of the Group One sprints.
“She has continued to strengthen and we consider it is maybe achievable
“We think she’s right up there and if we’re dealt the right hand it could happen. She’s an exciting horse to have in the stable, especially considering she’s a home-bred.
“We’ve just got to rely on her being a pretty genuine horse. I’ve got a feeling she’s going to measure up.”
Performing well in two Cranbourne barrier trials prior to her first-up run this year, Griante returned to racing for a credible fourth in the Group 3 Bellmaine Stakes (1200m) on February 14th; unlucky not to claim a better position after being blocked for a run late.
Responding in the best way possible when taking out the Group 3 Wenona Girl Quality (1200m) in her only other start prior to the William Reid Stakes, Griante has not been seen at the races since finishing a close second to Avoid Lightning in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) on Day 2 of The Championships.
Ladbrokes.com.au is currently offering the best odds on all Caulfield races this weekend including the Regal Roller Stakes, for which Griante can be taken at a quote of $8.50 for success.
