No Tricks appreciated the drop back to three year old company today and had no trouble backing up in the week after running fourth to Danchai in the Listed $175,000 Channel 7 Ipswich Cup (2150m) at Ipswich last Saturday.

The Wayne Walters trained filly arrived from New Zealand to be prepared for the Group 1 $500,000 Treasury Casino & Hotel Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Doomben but after running sixth in the three year old fillies classic on May 30, the Mount Gambier trainer decided to push on to try to get a win while in Queensland.

“She was to run in the Oaks, that was it,” Walters said.

“The reason we pushed on was because we didn’t have much luck.”

Even though No Tricks had had a run over 2200m in the Queensland Oaks, Walters was convinced that the Savabeel filly needed the run in the Ipswich Cup.

“She definitely knocked up last week. And the run cleaned her up and back 350m today, I thought, you know,” Walters said.

Winning rider Brenton Avdulla settled No Tricks ($5.50) in fifth and sixth position just behind the leading division ans secured a nice run in the straight to slice in between runners and hold on to score from Right Or Wrong ($11) and Court’s Star ($14).

The Gerald Ryan trained Bachman was sent out as the $4 favourite and even though Michael Cahill had the three year old in a good midfield position with a solid pace on up front, the colt didn’t seem to be travelling very comfortably.

Cahill eased Bachman to the outside coming to the home turn but the favourite never threaten in the straight to finish just behind the placegetters in sixth position.
