Daniel Pearce’s progressive gelding Pushin’ Shapes has opened favourite to win the WA Sires’ Produce Stakes 2015 on WATC Derby Day in Perth this weekend.
Two Group races highlight the Ascot race card on Saturday including the $200,000 Group 3 W.A. Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) for two-year-olds.
The set weights clash features a final field of 14, the early favourite of which in the latest WA Sires’ Produce Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au is Viscount gelding Pushin’ Shapes.
Drawn well in barrier four for jockey Jarrad Noske, the lightly-raced youngster has just his third career start here following a February win over 1000m on debut and then his last start third behind Lucky Street in the Listed Perth Stakes (1100m) on March 14.
Noske was aboard for the black type run when Pushin’ Shapes was defeated four and a half lengths, the horse winning a subsequent barrier trial at Pinjarra ahead of the Sires’ Produce Stakes test in Group company.
Following the favourite in the WA Sires’ Produce Stakes odds are then the Jason Pateman-trained black filly Showy Chloe ($4.40) and Light Up The Sky ($6.50) form Neville Parnham jumping from gates 10 and eight respectively.
Pateman’s daughter of Alfred Nobel has run exclusively in stakes’ company over her three start career to date that has produced a trio of third place finishes.
She is twice tested in Group company at Ascot too having run third when three-quarters of a length off Chantski in the Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes (1100m) in mid-March and then third again this time beaten nearly five lengths in the Group 2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) a fortnight later.
Showy Chloe had a tough test from barrier 13 of 13 in the Karrakatta however and will be tested again from another double digit gate on Saturday.
Big Brown filly Light Up The Sky meanwhile has run top two in three of her past four starts including a second to Lucky Street in the Perth Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1100m) back in February.
She was then beaten by the same horse again this time by nearly six lengths when fifth past the post in the Karrakatta Plate from the same barrier (eight) she’s drawn again this weekend.
The other hopes under $10 for the win are then Paul Jordan’s Street Sense colt Senso ($8) who was runner-up int eh Perth Stakes before a fourth to runaway winner Lucky Street in the Karrakatta and his rails-drawn stablemate Amourio ($9) up in class after some promising runs form the Oratorio colt.
Outside of these the best backed runner by the bookies is then the widely-drawn Idyllic Queen ($10), Jim Taylor’s Universal Ruler filly with the outside barrier to overcome after she won from gate seven over 1200m at the track on March 18.
