Day 1 of The Championships has been postponed this morning following heavy rainfall over the Royal Randwick track.
The Doncaster Mile (1600m) headlined a strong ten race card for the first day of Randwick’s autumn Grand Finals, which will now take place on Monday, April 6th.
Deputy Chief of Stewards Greg Rudolph said that while disappointing, safety concerns were the major reason for rescheduling Day 1 of The Championships for Monday.
“Unfortunately we galloped two horses here at 6am and it was rated in the heavy range then, it continued to rain all morning and we had a further inspection just after 9 o’clock and that showed water was starting to open up the holes on the track,” He said.
“Really it becomes a visibility issue on the day with continuing rain and deteriorating conditions.”
