Today the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival action steps up with a triple shot of Group 1 racing highlighting a nine-race program at Caulfield Racecourse for Blue Diamond Stakes Day 2015.

While rain is predicted for the early hours of Sunday morning, the weather at Caulfield for today’s program is looking good with cloudy skies and a 23 degree maximum keeping it cool for the gallopers.

Melbourne racing kicks off today at 1:30pm (AEDT) with the $150,000 Group 3 Zeditave Stakes (1200m) and will continue through until 6:25pm for the closing event on the all-black type program, the $120,000 Listed Mornington Cup Prelude (2000m).

Peppered over the line-up are a host of top autumn features including the day’s marquee race, the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) due to jump as Race 8 at 5:50pm.

Red hot favourite approaching odds-on territory in the Blue Diamond Stakes odds at Ladbrokes.com.au is the undefeated Robert Smerdon-trained Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude winner Fontiton ($2.15) with the rails run from barrier one.

She faces 14 rivals following the early scratching of Claudia Jean who was showing signs of mild lameness on Friday afternoon before failing to pass her veterinary inspection this morning.

There are two other Group 1 features on the Blue Diamond Stakes Day line-up.

Race 5 is the first with the weight-for-age $400,000 Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) where Peter Moody’s CF Orr Stakes winner Dissident is odds-on favourite to win.

Two events later Race 7 sees a field of 16 handicap hopefuls face off in the $400,000 Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) where Flamberge and Eloping have both been scratched.
