2014 W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes Final Field & Barrier Draw

The Group 3 W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) is one of two black-type races running at Ascot Racecourse this Saturday over in Perth, with 13 three-year-olds set to tackle the mile race.

13 fillies are racing in the W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes in a bid to race against Manhattan Avenue (inside) in the W.A. Guineas on November 22.

Grant Williams will enjoy a triple-pronged attack in the race, saddling Ideal Image, Delicacy, and Silverstream.

Ideal Image is a lightly raced filly with just three career starts to her name, all of which she has won. She enjoyed her first step up to black-type racing on November 1st in the Listed Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) which she won by a neck. The filly has also won two of her three barrier trails so will be one to watch this Saturday as she jumps from barrier 10 with Shaun O’Donnell as hoop.

Delicacy has yet to place outside the first three in all four of her starts, losing her first match last time out to Ideal Image in the Burgess Queen Stakes, where she finished third. The filly will enjoy an inside jump from barrier three with Peter Hall to ride.

Williams’ last runner is Silverstream, who finished seventh in the Burgess Queen and 10th in the Listed Belgravia Stakes (1200m). The filly will enjoy the increase to a mile distance as she jumps from barrier six with William Pike as jockey.

Lindsey Smith’s Silver Magic Ships and Brett Pope’s Tarquinn Shadow are two other two last start winners in the race.

Silver Magic Ships won the Festival Of Perth Racing Handicap (1200m) on Saturday, turning around her second last finish in the Burgess Queen. An inside run from barrier two would have only helped her and she’ll enjoy a start from barrier five in the 2014 W.A. Champion Fillies Stakes.

Tarquinn Shadown won the Tabtouch With Cash Maiden (1690m) on November 4, which was only her second career start and a good turnaround from her midfield finish in her first maiden run on October 19. She’ll enjoy an inside start from barrier two with Ben Kennedy in the saddle.
