Darren Weir’s last start Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner Trust In A Gust has firmed into top spot in the 2014 Toorak Handicap odds for the mile clash at Caulfield Racecourse this afternoon.
Earlier in the week when betting first opened at Ladbrokes.com.au on this year’s $400,000 Group 1 David Jones NBCF Toorak Handicap (1600m), Keep The Faith four-year-old Trust In A Gust was equal $6.50 second pick.
The money has been rolling in for the flying stallion however who shoots for his third win on the trot and back-to-back Group 1s on Caulfield Guineas Day.
Last time out Trust In A Gust beat them home narrowly in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes, an effort he’ll be looking to improve on when going up to a mile.
His only other run over the 1600m produced a second at Flemington in early April, Trust In A Gust now at $5, or $7 in the Best Tote or SP + 20% markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, to go one better than that this time at elite level from a wide barrier 11 (of 15) draw.
The second line of the open Toorak Handicap betting markets is now shared by three runners with former $5.50 co-favourites Bull Point and Arabian Gold now out to $6.50 with market mover Solicit.
Drawn in gate two with Jim Cassidy retaining the ride is the Chris Waller-trained Fastnet Rock four-year-old Bull Point, the stallion coming off a third to Trust In A Gust in the Sir Rupert Clarke.
Like the favourite Bull Point has had just the one previous look at a mile for a dead last when 14th to Dissident in the Randwick Guineas, an effort he’ll be looking to atone for this season.
Arabian Gold meanwhile is the best fancied mare in the Toorak Handicap as she looks to become the first female winner of the race since More Joyous (2010).
Jumping from gate 13 with Craig Williams in the saddle she won first-up at Rosehill in the Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) defeating Catkins and will look to bring that form to a track she’s undefeated at and a distance she’s won two from four over.
Solicit meanwhile is drawn one outside of Arabian Gold, the Street Cry mare runner-up behind Group 1 performer Dear Demi in the Group 2 Stocks Stakes (1600m) last start at Moonee Valley on September 26.
She opened at $7.50 earlier and so is another genuine market mover for the Toorak.
Commanding Jewel is then the big easer in Toorak Handicap betting right out from $6.50 second favouritism to $10.
She’s drawn in gate 10 with Corey Brown to ride so has a wide draw as she looks to improve on a third to Dear Demi and Solicit in the Stocks Stakes.
In from $10 to $9.50 meanwhile is Atlante in barrier eight who is set to be ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, the hoop having won three of the opening four Caulfield races today aboard Earthquake, Hosting and then the returning Rubick in the Group 2 Schillaci Stakes.
The other hopes under $20 for the Toorak are then Cox Plate-bound international Guest Of Honour ($14) in his Australian race debut, Speediness ($15) and Late Charge ($17) for jockey Glen Boss.
See below for the updated Toorak Handicap 2014 betting odds, and don’t forget at Ladbrokes.com.au you will get paid Best Tote or SP + 20% on the race this afternoon!
