Clear favourite Terravista has justified his position on the first line of betting at Royal Randwick this afternoon, charging home to win the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) with ease; I’m All The Talk beating Group 1 winner Famous Seamus with a nod of the head to secure second.
Jumping from the gates well, the Captain Rio gelding settled well within the pack, allowing early leaders I’m All The Talk, Safeguard and Didntcostalot who set a fair tempo over the back straight and rounding the bend.
Finding the final straight with a clear racing line, Terravista quickly ran to the lead of the field and shot away from his closest rivals, finding the line more than two lengths ahead I’m All The Talk.
Jockey Corey Brown delivered an excellent ride on Terravista in the 2014 The Shorts, and was thrilled to deliver trainer Joe Pride another Stakes victory.
“He’s very good, he didn’t have a lot of luck, he was three wide and facing the breeze and I was never worried about the way he was travelling or anything like that but the turn of foot was pretty incredible actually,” Brown said after crossing the line.
“Joe is a freak, I’ve had a lot of luck for Joey over the years and when Hughey (Bowman) got suspended I was the first one that Joe rang and he trusts me with all of his horses so its been great, thanks for all the support.”
Trainer Joe Pride was thrilled with Terravista’s easy victory in The Shorts and outlined the five-year-old as the best horse he has prepared over his entire training campaign, immediately after the race.
“This horse is amazing, he’s the best horse I’ve ever had,” Pride said.
“He’s got amazing, amazing sprint on him, he can set off a hot speed, he’s never been beaten at 1200 or below and it will be a long time before he does I think.”
Yet to be confirmed for a specific target beyond today’s victory, Terravista extended his exceptional racing record to eight wins and one minor place from just 11 competitive starts.
