The Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained mare La Amistad will continue her campaign towards the Spring Cups when she jumps favourite in Saturday’s 2014 Kingston Town Stakes at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney.
Money is coming for the Redoute’s Choice five-year-old to win second-up on the weekend, La Amistad one of 14 remaining hopes in the $125,000 Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) following the scratching of #15 World Wide who had the inside alley.
Drawn in barrier four with James McDonald to ride the three-quarter sister of Makybe Diva pays $2.80 through Ladbrokes.com.au to take out the handicap clash which would be her fourth win from five starts.
Her previous three wins came on the trot during the autumn and winter including a four length effort in the Listed WJ McKell Cup (2400m) in May.
She resumed for the spring then at Hawkesbury last month and finished under a length off Mr Chard in the Listed Rowley Mile (1600m).
Following La Amistad in the Kingston Town Classic odds are then just two other single figure hopes with imports Greatwood ($4.80) and He’s Your Man ($6).
Gai Waterhouse saddles up Manduro gelding Greatwood, the five-year-old racing down under for just the third time.
Tommy Berry stays on the widely-drawn galloper who beat home stable mate and fellow import Bonfire by near two lengths last time out in the Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) in the wet here on August 30.
Chris Waller’s former French galloper He’s Your Man meanwhile has barrier 13 (into 12), one wider than Greatwood, and will be ridden by Hugh Bowman for his fourth run this campaign.
He’s run top three in all three of those previous starts, including a Winter Challenge win here on August 2, and was third to Greatwood in the Premier’s Cup.
At longer prices but not without their claims are then the likes of the Ciaron Maher-trained Mr O’Ceirin ($13), Waller’s Sydney Cup runner-up Opinion ($17) and stable mate Lucky Chappy ($17).
