Morphettville trainer Lloyd Kennewell will run his in-form mare Thiamandi in the easier of two assignments on Saturday with the track specialist taking on the Regal Roller Stakes 2014 at Caulfield Racecourse.
Originally dually nominated for the meeting, the Street Boss four-year-old will look to continue her ace Caulfield record in the $120,000 Listed Winslow Group Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) where she’s sure to start near the top of the Ladbrokes.com.au markets to win.
The other option was up over more distance taking on the Spring Cup hopes in the $200,000 Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) under weight-for-age conditions.
Kennewell however has opted for the easy kill with Thiamandi getting in on the 54kg minimum in the Regal Roller Stakes where she meets the top weight a full eight kilos better off.
Having won her past three starts on the trot the Adelaide mare is after her third win from four starts at Caulfield after back-to-back wins here this time in.
Her latest effort was a big two length win over PB Lawrence acceptor Gig in the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m), a run Kennewell is hoping she can reproduce on Saturday from barrier two with Joe Bowditch to ride.
Top weight of the field meanwhile is the Peter Moody-trained triple Group 1 winner Moment Of Change.
Drawn in barrier six with Luke Nolen to ride the champion Barley A Moment six-year-old is first-up after a last start loss to Lankan Rupee in the Group 1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m).
Before that however they took out the CF Orr – Futurity Stakes double over the 1400m at Caulfield, a track and distance they return to for their first major assignment after Saturday in the $400,000 Group 1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) on August 30.
While the big weight is a concern on Saturday, Moody is using the run as a tune up for the Memsie where the master trainer rates him as the one to beat.
Moody has also accepted for Club Command who has drawn the outside gate in barrier nine, the Commands six-year-old having been competitive during the summer in Queensland with thirds in both the Magic Millions and Sunshine Coast cups.
The only other runner along with Moment Of Change weighted above the minimum meanwhile is the Mathew Ellerton & Simon Zahra-trained Pillar Of Creation (54.5kg).
Damian Lane has the mount on this rails-drawn God’s Own gelding who won over the 1400m here two back in a nice effort.
Lane has ridden them for their past four starts including that and a Moonee Valley win over 1200m, with the duo last seen running fifth behind Nearest To Pin carrying 57kg in the Listed All Victorian Sprint Series Final (1200m) at Flemington last month.
They are joined in Saturday’s field by stablemate Hard Stride, a Craig Williams’ mount in barrier five.
Their lead-up form is also impressive with four consecutive second place runs for the Street Sense four-year-old including two back behind Pyrrolic in the Listed Creswick Stakes (1200m).
