Sunday at the Sunshine Coast sees the postponed...
The Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes-trained Golden Slipper winning filly Mossfun heads the latest Golden Rose Stakes 2014 order of entry for the three-year-olds’ classic this spring.
Racing New South Wales (RNSW) has released an early order of entry for the $1 million Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m), running at Rosehill Gardens on September 13, based on the earnings of the possible contenders.
Futures Golden Rose odds are already open for keen Ladbrokes.com.au customers and Mossfun is the $7.50 second favourite.
A winner of four of her five starts to date she was last seen on April 5 at Rosehill winning the world’s richest race for two-year-olds, the $3 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m).
That victory and her two other Group wins boosted her prizemoney earnings to over $2.48 million making her clear number one on the Golden Rose order of entry.
Mossfun is set to have an 800m Friday morning hit-out at Flemington this Friday morning, the Sydney-based filly to have her first serious go at the Melbourne way of racing ahead of the spring.
Connections are yet to track the exact path for her new season campaign but after the Golden Rose one option is the $500,000 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield on October 11 for which she pays $13 to win.
Current favourite for both the Thousand Guineas ($5.50) and the Golden Rose ($6) meanwhile is the Godolphin-owned Golden Slipper runner-up Earthquake.
Now prepared by John O’Shea the daughter of Exceed And Excel also sits second on the Golden Rose order of entry with $1,556,200 in earnings following her stellar opening campaign.
Earthquake enjoyed four straight wins including the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) before her second in the wet in the Golden Slipper.
Her resuming run is scheduled for Randwick on September 6 in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) a week out from the Golden Rose 2014.
The Godolphin crew however has suggested Earthquake will bypass the Golden Rose leaving hopes of a win to debut winning colts Sarajevo (55th) and Meursault (35th) both at $13 to win.
Fillies dominate the first four in the Golden Rose entry at this stage too with the dominant duo followed by Peggy Jean ($882,525) and Bring Me The Maid ($499,500).
Peggy Jean pays $9 for Melbourne’s Thousand Guineas and $17 for the Golden Rose over 200m shorter, Gerald Ryan’s Myboycharlie filly having won the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) back in April.
Her latest run saw her tested over a mile when fifth behind Go Indy Go in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) on April 26.
Bring Me The Maid meanwhile is a Peter Moody-trained daughter of Sebring who ran third under two lengths off Mossfun in the Slipper.
She trialed at Doomben on July 29, having been spelled in Queensland over the winter, with Chad Schofield aboard, the Cox Plate winning hoop keen to retain the ride for her three-year-old campaign.
“She just had a nice quiet trial today but she did everything I wanted her to do,” Schofield told AAP on Tuesday.
“She’s strengthened up a bit and she felt terrific.”
The best of the boys in the Golden Rose order of entry meanwhile is the Gai Waterhouse-trained Almalad ($86,000) sitting fifth.
Third favourite in Golden Rose betting at Ladbrokes.com.au paying $9 as the last of the single figure fancies, the undefeated Al Maher gelding has won all three of their career starts including the Group 1 JJ Atkins (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 7.
