Go Indy Go Aimed towards 2014 Thousand Guineas

Trainer Leon Macdonald is confident of a standout 2014 Spring Racing Carnival for exciting two-year-old and Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) champion Go Indy Go, and has outlined the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) as the major target.

A standout performer in two-year-old events in her native South Australia, Go Indy Go charged home to claim the Champagne Stakes by more than a length on April 26th, and has since taken well to a stint in the spelling paddock.

Returning to work at Macdonald’s Morphettville stables this week, the Hall of Fame trainer said the Bernardini filly will be slowly brought back to peak condition, with a first-up tilt at the Group 3 Quizette Stakes (1100m) still more-than two months away.

“We’ve got plenty of time, so there’s no hurry with her,” Macdonald told TVN.

“She’s a really nice size; the break has done her a lot of good, but the best part about her is she’s just so athletic.

“You could go to the races 10 days after she comes back into work; that’s what she’s like.”

Unlucky to finish second in the Listed Cinderella Stakes (1050m) on debut on March 10th, Go Indy Go displayed a keen turn of foot to finish second to Team Hawkes-trained London Lolly in the Group 3 Breeders’ Stakes (1200m) before breaking through for a maiden race victory and earning a place in the final field of the Champagne Stakes with strolling home to win the Group 3 Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) by nearly four lengths on April 12th.

One of the country’s standout two-year-olds, Go Indy Go is currently offered as outright second favourite for success in early betting markets for the 2014 Group 1 Thousand Guineas at a generous quote of $7.

Breaking through for a maiden Group 1 title in the Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) on February 22nd, Earthquake is currently sole occupant of the top line of betting for success in the Thousand Guineas, offered at $5.50 odds.
