An over capacity field of 15 acceptors has been named for the 2013 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley this Saturday, 14 of those guaranteed a start while surprise final acceptor Shamus Award will need a scratching to make the field as the emergency.

Barriers for the $3 million Group 1 WS Cox Plate (2040m) were also drawn by connections this morning, race favourite Atlantic Jewel drawn to perfection in barrier 7 – the gate trainer Mark Kavanagh had been hoping for.
The other top fancies in pre-field Cox Plate betting had mixed luck with the barriers including the Gai Waterhouse-trained Fiorente in the far outside barrier (15 into 14), and Murray Baker’s Underwood Stakes champ It’s A Dundeel also in double digits with barrier 13.
