Rising sprinter Rebel Dane has been nominated to make his Melbourne racing debut in the Group 3 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Twenty-five horses have been nominated to contest the $150,000 event with a number of in-form sprinters set to clash.
Rebel Dane has competed exclusively in Sydney during his racing career but earnt a trip to Melbourne for the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival with an impressive first-up victory in the Group 3 Show County Quality (1200m) at Warwick Farm on August 24.
The California Dane entire was competitive at the highest level of racing during the autumn and trainer Gary Portelli is eyeing the major Group 1 sprints like the Manikato Stakes (1200m) and Patinack Farm Classic (1200m) with the classy four-year-old.
Darren Weir-trained Broken has been included in the nominations for the Bobbie Lewis Quality and will be chasing his third straight victory after recording surprise wins in the Group 3 Aurie’s Star Handicap (1200m) and the Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley.
The seven-year-old has been extremely consistent this campaign but will need to improve once again against what is set to be a very strong field.
Arguably the most interesting nomination is nine-year-old Albert The Fat who will be returning to the races for the first time since the 2013 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival.
Albert The Fat is a two-time Group 1 winner but has not been victorious since his tough win in the Emirates Stakes (1600m) during the 2011 Spring Racing Carnival.
The other Group 1 winner included in the Bobbie Lewis Quality nominations is Temple Of Boom who resumed with a second place finish behind Broken in the Aurie’s Star Handicap.
Temple Of Boom is chasing his first victory since his win in the 2012 Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m) and ,based on his first-up performance, is back to his best form after racing poorly during the autumn.
Adamantium, Adebisi and Chosen To Fly are all a chance to back up from the Carlyon Stakes while That’s The One has been included in the nominations despite finishing towards the tail of the field in the Group 3 The Heath 1100 (1100m) at Caulfield on Saturday.
