Jetset Lad Chasing Redemption in 2013 Eye Liner Stakes Field

New Zealand trainer John Wheeler will be hoping for a change of luck when sprinter Jetset Lad heads back for a second crack at the Listed 2013 Eye Liner Stakes (1350m) at Ipswich on Saturday.

The five-year-old produced the run of the race without any favours last year and had to settle for second behind Belltone.

There will be no Belltone this year and Jetset Lad heads into the race on the back of similar form.

Last year he headed to the tight-turning Ipswich venue after a 10th-place finish at Listed level and this year he lines up after finishing fifth in the Strawberry Road Handicap.

Jetset Lad is part of a capacity field that contains 16-horses plus four emergencies.

The race can be a consolation prize for many who failed to make the Stradbroke Handicap field including former Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready, Adelaide five-year-old Conservatorium and New South Wales gelding Mahisara.

Conservatorium was desperately unlucky to miss a start in Queensland’s most prestigous race when going down by the narrowest of margins in the Group 2 QTC Cup, a race that offers Stradbroke ballot exemption.

Trainer Gary Kennewll will be hoping his charge can turn strong performances into victory as he also finished second in the Group 1 Goodwood at Morphetville last month.

It is unlikely Phelan Ready will have too much support from punters, with the former juvenile star still yet to taste victory since his 2009 Golden Slipper triumph.

Top Brisbane trainer Kelso Wood has accepted with Benny’s Buttons in an attempt to claim back-to-back victories in the race.
