Updated Queensland Oaks 2013 Odds – Still a Two Filly Race

Betting on Saturday’s 2013 Queensland Oaks has re-opened following the release of the final field, Clarry Conners’ smart Dehere filly Dear Demi remaining at the top of the markets for the Eagle Farm feature.

Winner of the Crown Oaks during the Melbourne Cup Carnival last spring, Dear Demi will be having her third start in as many consecutive Saturday’s this weekend when she lines up as one of the 18 final acceptors for the $400,000 Group 1 XXXX Gold Queensland Oaks (2400m).

After coming up trumps with barrier three Dear Demi has opened at $3.40 in the Crown Oaks odds to bounce back from her sixth to Queensland Derby fancy Hawkspur in the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) last Saturday at Doomben.

In the Grand Prix Dear Demi faced a field full of male rivals and also had to jump from gate 13 of 15.

She gets back to her own kind this weekend, many of which she defeated two back to win the Group 3 The Roses (2000m), and will relish the kinder gate.

She is in for a jockey change however with Nash Rawiller to replace Luke Nolen who will be aboard Peter Moody’s $11 hopeful Miss Zenella (barrier 12), the progressive Zabeel filly coming off a nice three and a half length win at Sale from May 12 over 1700m.

Following Dear Demi closely in the Queensland Oaks betting markets is then $4 shot Gondokoro who was another big winner in the barrier draw coming up with the inside alley.

Pat Carey’s daughter of Zabeel is bred for the Oaks distance but failed to really show that back in November when seventh behind Dear Demi in the Crown Oaks.

She also finished behind Saturday’s top fancy when third in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m), Dear Demi second to Royal Descent in that autumn showdown run on a Heavy (10) Randwick track.

Gondokoro came much closer last time out however when second in The Roses, beaten a mere short half head with the extra 400m to work in her favour for the latest rematch this weekend.

Just one other filly in the bumper QLD Oaks field joins Dear Demi and Gondokoro under double figures with Express Power at $9.

Kris Lees’ Snitzel filly has the ideal gate two draw for the Oaks, Express Power having won the Listed Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m) from barrier 13 of 14 two back.

She was seventh in The Roses last start but is looking to return to form on Saturday with her regular rider, Hall of Famer Jim Cassidy staying aboard.

Other notable hopefuls at juicer prices out for an upset then include the aforementioned Victorian raider Miss Zenella ($11) making her Queensland debut, the undefeated Porcellanus ($12) in gate 13 for Gai Waterhouse, Waterhouse’s other runner The Roses third placegetter Vaquera ($12), Steven Wilson’s fellow Sydney raider Just As Cosmic ($15) who was a close fifth in The Roses, and Lees’ Gold Coast Bracelet runner-up Soapy Star ($16).
