A smart 12-filly field of three-year-olds has been released for the 2013 SA Fillies Classic this Saturday, the set weights clash one of the key support races of The Goodwood Day at Morphettville Racecourse.
To wear the number one saddlecloth in the $115,000 Group 3 SA Fillies Classic (2500m) this year is Michael Kent’s Victorian visitor Summerbliss, the daughter of Danehill Dancer also coming up trumps with barrier one and Luke Nolen to ride.
Third to Dear Demi in the Group 1 Crown Oaks (2500m) during the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Summerbliss comes off two well beaten efforts in Sydney including her last start seventh when crossing 19 lengths off the winner Royal Descent in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400m).
That was run on an unsuitable Heavy (10) track however and getting the distance with a firmer track from that gate brings her right back into contention.
Like a number of her SA Fillies Classic rivals Summerbliss is heading towards a run during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival targeting the $400,000 Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) at Eagle Farm on June 1.
In the futures Queensland Oaks Odds Summerbliss is rated an $8 chance in markets led by Dear Demi ($4.50).
Even shorter in the Queensland Oaks betting at $7 is the Michael Moroney-trained La Zuma who has come up with gate two for their Adelaide assignment this weekend, the daughter of Zabeel coming off a third to Maybe Discreet in the Group 1 Schweppes Oaks (2000m) at the track from April 27 when drawn in gate 12 (of 16).
The other big winners in the SA Fillies Classic barrier draw along with the rails-drawn Summerbliss and La Zuma were John Sadler’s Choisir filly Wowee (barrier three) and the Murray Baker-trained New Zealander Her To Eternity (barrier four).
There is just one last start winner in the mix with Darren Weir’s Magic Albert filly Happy Highway after their third on the trot following a big 8.5 length Swan Hill win over the mile and their last start 1900m success at Geelong on the synthetic.
Other notable hopes then include Moroney’s Schweppes Oaks failure Yantar looking to make amends, progressive Red Ransom filly Let’s Make Adeal and the lightly-raced Averau.
