Darley Australia’s head trainer Peter Snowden is confident heading into Saturday’s 2013 Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield Racecourse with his smart young filly Metastasio who will be looking to earn a Blue Diamond Stakes late entry by retaining her undefeated status with another career triumph.

Metastasio is favourite to win Saturday's Chairman's Stakes 2013 at Caulfield Racecourse
The daughter of Street Cry debuted at Flemington on January 19 when Kerrin McEvoy, who retains the ride this weekend, guided her to a tidy two and a half-length victory over the Peter Moody-trained Kona Breeze in the Nursery Plate (1100m).
On Saturday she races for the second time seeking another win this time in the $120,000 Listed PFD Food Services Chairman’s Stakes (1100m) which is being used by a number in the field as a lead-up into the $1 million Group 1 Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back at the track on February 23.
Metastasio currently occupies the fifth line of Blue Diamond Stakes betting at a quote of $12 despite not being nominated for the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival feature.
If she salutes as the $2.60 favourite on the weekend connections will likely be tempted to pay the expensive $55,000 late entry to officially get her into Blue Diamond Stakes contention.
“She has come back in great order since her run the other day at Flemington,” Snowden said.
“She has done a great job
“She is a filly who has gone above and beyond what we thought she would do early. She has come through her work and racing really well.
“We expect a similar sort of run and she should be competitive in what we think is a pretty solid race.”
Another top Blue Diamond Stakes fancy engaged in the Chairman’s Stakes is then Politeness who is rated a $9.50 chances for the end-of-month classic despite Saturday being her maiden career start.
The Robert Smerdon-trained Street Sense filly has not even had a trial but there’s plenty of hype surrounding her debut, bookmaker.com.au paying $3.80 for her to upset Metastasio after jumping from gate two with Glen Boss in the saddle.
There is a chance however that Politeness will be withdrawn from the Chairman’s Stakes and run tonight instead in the $50,000 Sportingbet Plate (1000m) at Moonee Valley.
