This Saturday Caulfield Racecourse will host the latest two prep races for juveniles heading towards the 2013 Blue Diamond Stakes next month, one of which is the Blue Diamond Preview for colts & geldings.
Scheduled as Caulfield Race 3 at 2:10pm (AEST) the $120,000 Listed Patinack Farm Blue Diamond Preview (Colts & Geldings) (1000m) has drawn a final field of 11 hopefuls, five of which are currently nominated and in the bookmaker.com.au markets for the $1 million Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) back at the track on February 23.
In the latest Blue Diamond Stakes odds the shortest-priced of the BD Preview hopefuls is the Peter Snowden-trained Kuroshio at $26.
The Exceed And Excel colt has had two previous runs winning on debut at Flemington in the Listed Herald Sun Superracing Stakes (1000m) on October 6 with Glen Boss aboard.
They backed up 11 days later and ran third to Villa Verde in the Listed Inglis Debutants Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield with Vlad Duric aboard.
Saturday sees them return to racing in the Preview, Kuroshio drawn ideally in gate four with Kerrin McEvoy riding for the first time.
They are followed in Blue Diamond betting by another son of Exceed And Excel, Thermal Current ($34), with Excitable Boy ($71) the only other under triple figures.
Peter Moody’s young colt Thermal Current debuted on January 12 at Flemington and caught the eye when crossing just a long neck away second behind Ms Funovits in the Better Beyond 2YO Plate, an effort their trainer hopes they will improve on in at Caulfield.
More Than Ready colt Excitable Boy from the stables of Danny O’Brien is another with previous race experience having run a good third when beaten a length by Preview rival Kuroshio in the Superracing Stakes.
Of the non-Blue Diamond nominated Preview acceptors the ones with a genuine chance on Saturday look to include Jason Warren’s colt Magnaro who won their last start at Werribee and Moody’s debutant Dissident.
