The final field and barrier draw has been released for the 2012 Phelan Ready Stakes, the colts and geldings Magic Millions 2YO Classic lead-up running at Eagle Farm Racecourse in Brisbane this Saturday.
Having attracted a final field of 11 two-year-olds this year’s edition of the $100,000 Listed Origin Kebabs Phelan Ready Stakes (1000m) is set to run as Eagle Farm Race 2 at 12:50pm (local time).
Of the 11 colts and geldings engaged to face off in the race used by a number of youngsters as a preparatory run for January’s $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m), the summer’s richest race, there are six that have had a previous run.
Only one of those six has actually won a race with the Gillian Heinrich-trained Eliminator, drawn in gate eight with Jeff Lloyd to ride for the first time.
The Gold Coast-based Choisir colt debuted at their home track on November 3 and blew their competition away over the 900m posting a blistering eight and a half length win.
Also coming off a good debut run is Matthew Dunn’s Lonhro colt Londehero who has come up trumps with barrier three, Glen Colless in the saddle, for Saturday’s showdown.
They were last seen running second at Eagle Farm in an open 2YO handicap over 1000m, Londehero carrying 58kg to a brave second when defeated just a long neck by Sister Magic (55kg) and should appreciate the 56.5kg under set weights conditions in the Phelan Ready Stakes.
The other horses with race experience behind them are then Encosta De Lago colt El Toranado, Telegram, In The Sky Rocket out to break their maiden status at career start number four and Vahalla Mist.
Also on the Eagle Farm race card this Saturday is the fillies’ version of the Phelan Ready, the $100,000 Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1000m) where the Liam Birchley-trained Missy Longstocking will look to retain her unbeaten status with a third straight career victory.
The complete 2012 Phelan Ready Stakes field, barriers, jockeys and weights are detailed below.
