It’s A Dundeel remains at the top of the Victoria Derby odds 2012 for this Saturday’s Flemington classic despite the boom Kiwi having drawn barrier 10.
Defeated for the first time last Saturday in the Moonee Valley Vase, the Murray Baker-trained High Chaparral colt will be out to atone this weekend
Super Cool has eased out in the 2012 Victoria Derby odds after drawing wide in gate 11
when they jump the favourite again in the $1.5 million Group 1 AAMI Victoria Derby (2500m) which drew a capacity field of 16 starters.
Drawn worse than midfield with barrier 10, It’s A Dundeel is still the one to beat according to the bookies but they have eased out in the Victoria Derby odds from $2.40 (pre-field) to $2.70.
Just three of their rivals are also at single-figures in the Victoria Derby betting markets with:
- #3 Honorius ($6) – David Payne-trained Holy Roman Emperor colt ran third to It’s A Dundeel in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) in Sydney before their second in the Norman Robinson Stakes, big market mover since the release of barriers having come up trumps with gate two
- #5 Hvasstan ($7) – In-form son of Fastnet Rock ran second in the UCI Stakes two back at Flemington over 1800m before their narrow win in the Norman Robinson beating a field of Derby hopefuls
- #4 Super Cool ($7.50) – Has eased out in the markets after drawing awkwardly in barrier 11, the only horse to beat It’s A Dundeel to date when the Mark Kavanagh-trained galloper beat them home in the Vase last Saturday
There are then three more Victoria Derby hopes under $20 in the markets open on the final field with Robert Smerdon’s Norman Robinson Stakes third placegetter Electric Fusion ($11), Cranbourne galloper Subiaso ($16) and Adelaide raider Jimando ($19).
