Green Moon Wins 2012 Turnbull Stakes On Way To Melbourne Cup

Green Moon has prevailed with a gutsy run in the Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington Racecourse today October 6, 2012.

The five-year-old proved that he would be a top contender in the spring’s feature races with today’s race win.

Green Moon won the race by a long neck ahead of Seville, who placed second, and December Draw, who finished the race in third place.

The five-year-old has now won six of his 18 race starts and has earned more than $1 million in prize money during his horse racing career.

Green Moon was paying odds of $4 to win the 2012 Turnbull Stakes at bookmaker.com.au.

Owner Nick Williams was ecstatic with the result, after also watching his horse Tanby win the Listed The Bart Cummings earlier in the day.

“It’s extraordinary, you’ve got to pinch yourself,” Williams said.

“I daresay it’s probably one of (our) better days.

“I think we can move on to the Cox Plate and Caulfield Cups.

“It’s very exciting, (I) couldn’t be happier.”

Green Moon was ridden by in form jockey Craig Williams in today’s 2012 Turnbull Stakes.

“I’ve been really fortunate,” Williams said.

Williams has been aboard Green Moon for all his three race starts this year and was disappointed when the five-year-old was beaten by a nose in the Group 2 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley on September 15.

“I was actually a bit devastated when he got beat last time,” he said.

“This horse has just got better and better.

“He was good and dominant in the end.

“I’ve enjoyed the work with Green Moon and he’s delivered.

“That was really special that win.”
