The Ron Quinton-trained Royal Celebration is one...
The last of the Group races on the Flemington Super Saturday of Racing card this weekend is the Schweppervescence Trophy 2012 where John Gunning’s smart mare Hi Belle will be gunning for back-to-back black type wins in Melbourne.
One of 12 fillies and mares engaged for this Saturday’s edition of the $150,000 Group 3 Schweppervscence Trophy (1600m), which is due to run as Flemington Race 8 at 4:45pm, Clangalang five-year-old Hi Belle was last seen running away to put a minimum two lengths on her rivals in the Group 3 Mannerism Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Blue Diamond Day.
She is now the clear $3.80 favourite in the 2012 Schweppervescence Trophy odds at bookmaker.com.au to score successive Group 3 titles and add to her growing record that also includes a Listed victory over the Caulfield mile last spring.
Following Hi Belle in the Schweppervescence Trophy betting markets at bookmaker.com.au are then four other runners under double figures with Spirit Song ($4.80), Lady Lynette ($7.50), Cute Emily ($8) and Vintedge ($9).
Aaron Purcell’s Invincible Spirit mare Spirit Song won by four lengths the last time she raced over 1600-metres at Sandown back on January 28.
Following that the in-form four-year-old won the BMW Melbourne Handicap (1800m) at Caulfield by three lengths before her last-start second over 2000-metres at the same track on February 25.
Coming back to the mile Spirit Song looks an excellent pick in the Flemington Race 8 odds at bookmaker.com.au.
The odds on well-tried Tassie mare Lady Lynette, meanwhile, look juicy.
The seven-year-old comes off a stakes win over 1400-metres back home at Launceston and the last time she was at Flemington was for the Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) last Derby Day where she finished a good fifth against a much tougher field.
Meanwhile, former winners at the track and distance that could prove good value for either an upset win or to include in exotics are the Darren Weir-trained Marveen ($17 bookmaker.com.au) drawn well in barrier five and Danny O’Brien’s Fashion Black ($31 bookmaker.com.au).
