Beaded has won the Doomben 10,000
Beaded has one of the biggest hearts in the country and that was plain to see with the race not decided until the final bob on the line.
From the outset the pace was hot with Border rebel as expected taking up the early running.
Buffering was a bit slow out of the gates so he had to work hard early to get into third with Love Conquers All joining the leader on the outside.
Beaded was fourth on the rails with the other runners taking up their expected positions out the back.
As they turned for home Love Conquers All quickly moved up and took the lead from Border Rebel and Buffering fell right out of the contest.
That opened the door for Beaded to get a run and she took it, moving up to the leader halfway along the straight.
Further back in the field Black Piranha was running on the best with the others well out of it.
When Beaded took the lead it looked like game over but she started to tire and Love Conquers All started to come back at her.
It was pure determination that ended up getting her to the line first and in doing so claiming her first Group 1 victory.
Love Conquers All was unlucky in second place with Black Piranha really impressing late once he found himself in the clear.
Border Rebel rounded out the top four but they couldn’t match the little mare for Peter Snowden.
She has a special place in her trainers heart and while he knows she wasn’t at her best today, he knew she’d always come close.
“This filly is a touch underdone today, she probably just weakened the last 50m but that’ll bring her on,” he said.
“I honestly thought when I first brought her to work that if she wins a midweek race in town ill be happy with it.”
She’s obviously given him a lot more than that with 20 career starts for 10 wins and nine placings, a truly remarkable effort.
It was a great ride by Corey Brown and he’s been rewarding with an incredible sixth group 1 for six different trainers this season.
He was a bit worried he’d butchered it as they came into the straight but he’d done enough to get her to the line.
“I pushed her button a little bit early,” he said.
“She’d done nothing in the run but when she sprinted it was all over.”
He’d been focussing on this ride all week and you can tell it meant a hell of a lot to him.
“I’m not real big on form, today I’ve done form back to front for this race,” he said.
“It was just the perfect run race for her.
“She’s got the biggest heart she gives 110 percent, now she’s got a Group 1.”
One aspect other than the performance of Beaded that is worth noting is the run of Black Piranha.
He heads to the Stradbroke from here and this run has an eerie similarity to the Doomben 10,000 performances before his last two Stradbroke wins.
