Hay List has been scratched from the Doomben 10,000
This of course comes on the back of Black Caviar’s withdrawal last week and it’s thrown the betting markets into absolute chaos.
Black Caviar was originally an odds on favourite to sweep herself another Group 1 and after she was taken out Hay List became the new short priced favourite.
With him now gone as well the markets have been blown wide open and it looks like Beaded will now be the one to beat as markets begin to settle.
Love Conquers All has also come right into contention and some of the back markers have had their quotes halved.
The scratching of Hay List came as a huge surprise with Racing Queensland stewards notified just hours ago.
The official press release from Racing Queensland reads:
“Racing Queensland Limited Stewards have been advised by trainer Mr John McNair that Hay List is sore in the off hind fetlock and has this afternoon required treatment including the administration (by the stable’s veterinary surgeon) of anti-inflammatories. Accordingly, Hay List has been scratched from the Group 1 Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000.”
It’s a huge blow for the carnival that had started off so well with record crowds on hand during BTC Cup Day.
Administrators will be hoping they can still get a good number through the gate but it will be hard with the two stars on Australian sprinting now out of the contest.
There’s no word yet on if Hay List will return for a crack at the Stradbroke Handicap but it seems unlikely with McNair saying earlier in the week that he would only run should be beat the field tomorrow by multiple lengths.
The only good news to come out of Doomben today is that the track has been upgraded to a Dead 4 after starting the week as a Slow 7.
