Thursday Horse Racing – 2011 Toowoomba Cup Day

Today, Thursday March 31, the end of another month on the track concludes with a bang as five exciting TAB meetings are set to take place including Toowoomba Cup Day in Queensland.

Racing is scheduled for racecourses in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia and Tasmania this afternoon.

Highlighting today’s racing programme is the eight-race card at Toowoomba featuring two black-type events.

Toowoomba Race 6 the $150,000 Listed XXXX Gold Weetwood Handicap (1200m) and Race 7 the $100,000 Listed Toowoomba Cup (2100m) are both must see events featuring top fields.

Below is a brief of all of today’s TAB meets, jump times for Race 1 on each card, best events at each raceday and tips for the features.

Today’s Horse Racing

  • Seymour (VIC)Race 1 due to jump at 1:00pm (AEDST)

Victoria’s Seymour track has a great eight-race line-up running today starting at 1:00pm (AEDST) with the $15,000 Railway Club Hotel SV 2YO Maiden Plate (1009m).

Seymour Race 5 – the $22,500 IASBet.Com Country Showcase 0 – 62 Handicap (1209m) at 3:20pm (AEDST) is the feature sprint at the meeting and for the win we are tipping #10 I’m Outspoken having shown recent good form and drawing well in barrier five.

  • Hawkesbury (NSW) Race 1 due to jump at 1:15pm (AEDST)

Hawkesbury Racecourse will host New South Wale’s sole TAB meet today with the first of eight races, the $16,000 Clarendon Parklea Displays Maiden Plate (1000m), getting things underway at 1:15pm (AEDST).

Don’t miss Hawkesbury Race 2 – the $16,000 Brivis Air Conditioning Class 2 Handicap (2000m) at 1:50pm (AEDST) where after the early scratching of #6 Savannah’s Choice, #1 Fine Drop looks hard to beat.

  • Toowoomba (QLD)Race 1 due to jump at 2:00pm (AEDST)

Toowoomba is home to today’s best horse racing action, the bumper programme kicking off at 2:00pm (AEDST) with Race 1 – the $15,000 SEDL Agencies QTIS Three-Years-Old Handicap (1000m).

Races six and seven are the features here.

In the 2011 Weetwood Handicap at 5:05pm (AEDST) two horses are battling for favouritism with #3 Zaratone narrowly ahead in the odds despite the Canberra gelding’s wide barrier 10 draw and their last-start seventh behind Atomic Force at Warwick Farm.

Second elect is #2 Lucky Leak, the locally trained five-year-old coming off three straight wins at Doomben.

But our tip of the field is $7.50 shot, #1 Poor Judge, Norm Hilton’s Royal Academy gelding who ran third to More Joyous in last year’s Toorak Handicap tipped to improve from their recent starts and return to Group winning form.

The other major showdown on the Toowoomba card today is the 2011 Toowoomba Cup at 6:45pm (AEDST).

A top field of stayers are engaged for the race with #7 Topping the $3 favourite in the latest markets.

Despite drawing wide, the Michael Nolan-trained four-year-old was impressive last start winning over 1833m at Eagle Farm and could be hard to beat again today.

For the placings watch for Teary Eyed again, ran second to Topping last start, and Sinful Warrior.

  • Albany (WA)Race 1 due to jump at 4:07pm (AEDST)

WA’s Albany Racecourse has a quality seven-race card scheduled for this afternoon starting with the $8,000 The Weekender Maiden (1500m) at 4:07pm (AEDST).

Best race here will be Race 6 – the $9,000 Motel Le Grande Handicap (1500m) at 7:20pm (AEDST) where #7 Megablitz on the rails looks a great value outsider to back for an upset.

  • Launceston (TAS)Race 1 due to jump at 6:34pm (AEDST)

The final TAB meet today is the bumper eight-race card at Tasmania’s Launceston track, things there kicking off at 6:34pm (AEDST) with the $12,500 O’Keefe’s Hotel Maiden Class 1 Plate (1620m).

Launceston Race 6 – the $16,000 Sporties Hotel Open Handicap (1120m) at 9:16pm (AEDST) this evening is shaping up as a cracker and to win their third straight we are getting behind #9 My Tourmaleen.
