The Sydney Spring Carnival’s premier meeting, Golden Slipper Day 2011, will run at Rosehill Gardens this Saturday with one of the feature black-type races on the programme being the $175,000 Group 2 Tulloch Stakes (2000m).

A set weights race for three-year-old colts and geldings, the 2011 Myer Tulloch Stakes final field features 12 quality gallopers.

Top-rated entry in this year’s Tulloch Stakes is the Peter Snowden-trained Retrieve, drawn ideally in barrier three for Saturday’s showdown.

Rahy colt Retrieve is coming off a game second to star Kiwi colt Jimmy Choux in the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) from last weekend.

Having come within a half-length of Group 1 glory in the Guineas, Retrieve is now on-way to another showdown with Jimmy Choux in the $1.5 million Group 1 AJC Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick Saturday week, April 9.

One of the best three-year-olds in recent years, Jimmy Choux sits at the top of the 2011 AJC Derby odds at a quote of $2.80 followed by Retrieve paying $5.

A win in the Tulloch Stakes with Retrieve will kick off what is shaping up as a beautiful day for Snowden who prepares the favourite for the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m), Sepoy.

The other early favourite to win the Tulloch Stakes on Saturday is the Michael Kent-trained Blackie.

A winner of their past four starts, Cranbourne-based gelding Blackie was the gritty winner of the Group 2 Phar Lap Stakes (1500m) here on March 19 and with a good barrier six draw for the Tulloch is one of the main chances.

Gai Waterhouse’s consistent Snippetson gelding Fast Clip who ran a close second to Blackie in the Phar Lap Stakes is also backing up in the Tulloch Stakes drawn ideally in barrier four.

The most notable defector from the Tulloch Stakes field is Alister Clarke Stakes winner Domesky.

The 2011 Myer Tulloch Stakes will run as Rosehill Race 2 on Saturday, due to jump at 12:25pm (AEDST).
