Galizani is the Epona Stakes winner on 2011 Rosehill Guineas Day
An honest runner, Galizani went out at around $6.50 in the betting markets for Rosehill Race 6 but was too good for the field of fellow females in the end having been given a beautifully timed ride by Jim Cassidy.
Third-up from a spell, Galizani was coming off a fourth place finish behind Warpath in the Listed Aspiration Quality (1600m) at Warwick Farm, and the 1900m today was always going to suite.
Early on Femina Fashion came across from her wide barrier 13 draw to lead from the Mick Price-trained Vivid Vixen with Rubinacci settling into third.
After finding their positions, Blurred Vision came up into second on the outside of Femina Fashion.
On the home straight Skyerush made a lighting move from the back of the pack to challenge the leader.
Then in the final 400m Galizani kicked away well coming down quickly on the outside straight past the field, hitting the front with 200m left to travel.
Working home strongly, Galizani and Cassidy were able to easily hold on to win a length and three quarters ahead of Vivid Vixen and Glen Boss while Chris Waller’s Vintedge finished off the Trifecta a further half length away.
A bred stayer from Zabeel mare Zahani, Galizani’s win today was her third from eight starts and she will only continue to improve over more distance.
Connections are now looking at the longer Group race features at the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival up in Queensland for Galizani’s next major assignments.
