Panipique Wins MSS Security Stakes on way to 2011 Robert Sangster

Panipique

Panipique is the Listed MSS Security Stakes winner

Peter Moody’s improving Testa Rossa filly Panipique has claimed victory in the second race at Flemington’s Newmarket Handicap Day this afternoon, outclassing a quality field of three-year-olds in the $125,000 Listed MSS Security Stakes (1100m).

After drawing poorly out wide in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 26, Panipique ran ninth to Eagle Falls first-up for the season.

Today she was always going to be competitive against her own company stepping back in class from her unlucky Oakleigh Plate finish.

Jumping away from barrier six, Panipique settled into a nice position behind her more-favoured stablemate Kulgrinda in Flemington Race 2 today.

It was the Mick Price-trained Tricky Tricky that took the early lead followed by the likes of Multahem and Umegeton who also settled in at the top of the field.

With 200m to go, however, Panipique raced up on the outside, let down and in a brilliant ride from Michael Walker the filly found a gap and accelerated forward to hit the front.

Drawing away over the final 100m, Panipique coasted to an easy victory again showing her superior second-up form.

One of the roughies in the market, That’s Not It produced a super effort to finish second while Pontiana grabbed third in a photo-finish with Moody’s Kulgrinda eventually crossing for fourth.

Panipique has now won three of her nine career starts with Moody naming the $350,000 Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville on March 26 as her next autumn aim.

Flemington’s Super Saturday action continues next with Race 3 – the $300,000 Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) and of the two-year-olds in the field we are tipping #1 Masthead to win for Lee Freeman so back them now at Luxbet!
