Prominent racehorse owner Dr Edmund Bateman now has two livewire chances in the world’s premier race for two-year-olds after promising Fastnet Rock juvenile Foxwedge staked his 2011 Golden Slipper claims with win at Warwick Farm over the weekend.

The John O’Shea-trained Foxwedge, who won on debut by an easy 1 ¼ lengths at Rosehill back in November of last year, had just their second career start last Saturday in the opening race at Chipping Norton Stakes Day.

After going out as the $2.40 second elect, the colt stormed home in the $100,000 The Clarry Conners Plate (1100m) beating $1.90 favourite Anise by an emphatic two lengths while the Clarry Conners-trained Irish Times ($9) finished a further 1 ½ lengths away in third.

Following Saturday’s success, leading online bookmaker Luxbet slashed their price on Foxwedge to win the $3.5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on April 2.

Foxwedge firmed in from $26 to equal $12 third favourite with the fellow Bateman-owned Satin Shoes.

Speedy daughter of Flying Spur, Satin Shoes also remains unbeaten having won all three of her career starts to date including her brilliant effort in the Group 2 Sliver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on February 26.

Odds on the David Payne-trained Defiant Dame who was scratched from Saturday’s Clarry Conners Plate have drifted in the Golden Slipper markets at Luxbet from $18 to $26.

Runner-up behind Foxwedge, Anise went out from $26 to $34 in the Golden Slipper odds at Luxbet while Irish Times remains a $101 roughie unlikely of a start in the prestigious feature.

Golden Slipper Stakes betting is still dominated by Blue Diamond Stakes champion Sepoy who remains the $2.40 favourite at Luxbet.

Classy filly Karuta Queen occupies the second line of Golden Slipper betting paying a generous $7.50, Neville Layt’s unbeaten daughter of Not A Single Doubt recently running a blistering 13 ½ length trial win at Canberra.

Foxwedge will have a third career run and final Golden Slipper lead-up in the Group 2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 19 where Satin Shoes will also complete her Golden Slipper preparations with a start in the Group 2 Reisling Stakes (1200m).
