Southern Speed has charged to victory in the Mitty’s Vanity to take her record to three from three and could now start in the 2011 Australian Guineas.
Once she hit the front on the home straight she never looked in doubt even up against the favourite Do Ra Mi.
Trainer Leon MacDonald said she looked her best with under 100m to go so is keen to develop her for races over longer distances.
Coming into this race she was nominated for the Australian Guineas so the win has sewn up a starting birth but that’s only if they decide to take it.
MacDonald said he would wait and see how his other nomination Spirited Eagle performed later today before making any decision.
In the C.S Hayes Stakes Spirited Eagle was one of the top backed runners and ran a solid race but was swamped at the end to finish third.
It’ll be up to MacDonald to decide if that performance was good enough to start him as his sole Australian Guineas or if Southern Speed will be given her crack at the title.
