2011 Gurner’s Lane Handicap won by Did We Win – Flemington Race 8 Results

The final race on the Lightning Stakes Day programme at Flemington this afternoon has been won by handy six-year-old Did We Win who claimed an upset in the $70,000 Gurner’s Lane Handicap (1700m).

The Terry and Karina O’Sullivan-trained Umatilla gelding Did We Win was a roughie in the markets paying around $20 for the win.

After Robert Hickmott’s Boland lead through the early stages from Mt Everest and Rubinacci, Did We Win was poised and waiting having settled midfield.

On the swing for home Boland still lead narrowly, while favourite Studley Park was never a threat on the outside looking a little green and having left their run to late.

With 200m to go winning jockey Brian Park bought Did We Win up through the field pulling away in the final 100m to score a tidy 2 ½ length victory over the Tony Vasil-trained mare Rubinacci with Stole finishing third.

Studley Park, odds-on favourite, crossed in fourth position today.

Did We Win has now won six of their 41 career starts with connections naming the $110,000 Listed Kilmore Cup (1600m) next Sunday as a follow-up run for the veteran.

With the Lightning Stakes Day action over for another year punters should be turning their attention to the exciting line-up at Caulfield next weekend for Blue Diamond Stakes Day 2011.
