Coolmore Lightning Stakes Day Programme & Race Times 2011

The 2011 Coolmore Lightning Stakes Day is set to take place at Victoria’s iconic Flemington Racecourse this Saturday February 19 as part of the elite racing action of the Melbourne Autumn Racing Carnival.

The cracker eight-race Lightning Stakes Day programme is headlined by the $750,000 Group 1 Lightning Stakes (1000m), Australia’s sole Group 1 sprint run over 1000m.

The 2011 Lightning Stakes is due to run as Flemington Race 7 on Saturday at 4:50pm.

Hot favourite to win the fast-paced feature is unbeaten mare Black Caviar.

Currently our preferred online bookmaker Luxbet is paying $1.35 for Black Caviar in their Lightning Stakes odds.

Other rivals in the Lightning Stakes field out to cause an upset include the mighty Hay List, comeback galloper King Pulse, Golden Slipper winner Crystal Lily and South Australian three-year-old Stirling Grove.

There are three other black-type races scheduled to run alongside the Lightning Stakes at Flemington on Saturday.

Flemington Race 1, the $100,000 Listed Talindert Stakes (1100m) is due to kicks things off at 12:50pm (AEDST) and is also the opening stakes race on the programme.

The Talindert Stakes is shaping up as a top showdown between some of the season’s best two-year-olds including Redangelo already assured of a start in the 2011 Blue Diamond Stakes field Saturday week Exceed And Excel filly and Anevay.

Flemington’s opening Group race on Saturday’s card is Race 4 – the $200,000 Group 3 The Mittys Vanity (1400m) where Peter Moody’s Do Ra Mi is the pronounced favourite out of the three-year-old fillies lining up.

Do Ra Mi is looking to improve her chance of a run in the 2011 Australian Guineas on March 5 and is currently paying $2.15 to win The Mittys Vanity through Luxbet.

Race 5 on the Lightning Stakes Day card is the day’s other headline event with a talented field of three-year-old colts and geldings facing off in the $200,000 Group 3 CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at 3:30pm (AEDST).

The CS Hayes Stakes is shaping up as a great prelude to the 2011 Australian Guineas with Enjin Number Nine, Dusty Star, Anacheeva and Mr Chard all running.
