Typhoon Tracy edges out Heart Of Dreams to win the 2011 CF Orr Stakes

Typhoon Tracy proved she is still one of our true turf stars, storming home to win back-to-back CF Orr Stakes at Caulfield today.

Peter Moody’s classy Red Ransom mare dominated the CF Orr betting markets since odds opened and started as the clear $2.10 favourite at Luxbet.

Overcoming a wide barrier 11 draw, Typhoon Tracy added a sixth Group 1 victory to her imposing career record and gave Moody his third consecutive Caulfield win today.

After getting away well jockey Luke Nolen settled Typhoon Tracy into second behind early leader Danzylum with Doubtful Jack third followed by Ortensia.

Oh the turn home Danzylum was a half length ahead of the favourite but she dug deep and pinned her ears back to pull to the front.

The Typhoon got a narrow lead and looked in for a big win, but Heart of Dreams was coming hard and challenging the favourite.

In a thrilling photo finish the CF Orr Stakes Quinella resulted the same as 12 months ago, Typhoon Tracy beating home Heart Of Dreams.

It was a narrow winning margin with just a short half-head the difference while third favourite in the CF Orr odds, Ortensia, also produced a super race to come in for third.

Early leader Danzylum hung on to finish fourth, a good result for Cranbourne trainer Robbie Griffiths.

After running third as the beaten favourite first-up in the Group 2 Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley on January 28, today Typhoon Tracy was back to her best.

It had been a while between drinks for the mighty mare, Typhoon Tracy’s last win having been back on April 3 last year in the Group 1 Queen of the Turf Stakes (1500m).

Typhoon Tracy boosted her record to 11 wins from 20 career starts, her prize money now over $2.5 million.

Today’s victory also added to Typhoon Tracy’s value as a broodmare, connections looking to retire the reigning Horse of the Year at the end of the season.

The Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 26 on Blue Diamond Stakes Day is next on the card for Typhoon Tracy while the $1 million Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington’s Super Saturday on March 12 is her other major autumn assignment.
