Apennine has scored a commanding win in the Norman Carlyon Premium Handicap, Race 5 at Moonee Valley tonight, leading from start to finish in the 2040m race.

Apennine held off a late challenge from White Yard, winning by 0.3 of a length. Race favourite Comocean finished third after sitting last for the first half of the distance, 1.6 lengths back.

Trained by Robert Smerdon, 5-year-old mare Apennine has now won 4 races in her 34 career starts.
