One of the major summer racing features to take place in the New Year is the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day on Saturday January 15 where the feature event at the meeting will be the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).
The 2011 Magic Millions 2YO Classic nominations are in with 140 juveniles making up the early entry for the feature showdown.
Early favourites to make the field and become the next Magic Millions Classic winner include the Gillian Heinrich-trained Military Grace and I’m The One.
General Nediym filly Military Grace, out to repeat the feats of her older stable-mate Military Rose who won the event last year, enjoyed a promising stakes victory in the Listed Calaway Gal Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Now having claimed over $80,000 in prize money, Military Grace is guaranteed a spot in the MM Classic field and is sure to start at the top of the odds.
Leading local Gold Coast trainer Heinrich has also nominated Brilliant Facets, Cheeky Order, La Quesne Belle, So Sharply and Internal Revenue for the 2011 Magic Millions Classic.
Of her contingent the next top rated chance to give Heinrich back-to-back Classic wins is Internal Revenue, the well-bred Exceed And Excel colt coming off a gallant second in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes at Eagle Farm.
The two-year-old that beat the favourite Internal Revenue in the Phelan Ready, Mark Goodwin’s I’m The One, is another excellent Magic Millions Classic contender.
Winner of the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Karuta Queen, is also set to back up in the Gold Coast edition next month.
The unbeaten Not A Single Doubt filly has won all three of her career starts to date for trainer Neville Layt making Karuta Queen one of the highest earners among the early entries having amassed an incredible $274,000 to date.
Trainers from all over Australia have entries in the 2011 Magic Millions Classic including Gai Waterhouse with an impressive nine nominees, David Payne with four entries, Chris Waller nominating 10 of his Magic Millions-graduates, Peter Moody with two entries and In Excess the sole nominee for the legendary Bart Cummings.
Of Sydney trainer David Payne’s entries, promising More Than Ready filly Defiant Dame is his leading chance having won the Listed Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) by an emphatic three and a half lengths back in early October.
The maximum 16-horse final field for the 2011 Magic Millions 2YO Classic will be released on Tuesday January 11.
Early betting markets on the Gold Coast Racecourse feature will open prior to the final acceptances so get ready to lock in your favourites in the generous ante-post odds by signing up with Luxbet today!
