The premier racing event to take place at the Gold Coast Racecourse in Queensland is the annual Magic Millions Carnival running over two weeks in January and the feature event of the festival is the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions Race Day, scheduled to light up the track on Saturday January 15.
Conducted by the Gold Coast Turf Club, the Magic Millions series of races are all highly anticipated and lucrative events for horses previously purchased through the Magic Millions Sales and fall under the Restricted Races category.
The 2011 Magic Millions Race Day, sponsored by BMW, features an elite nine-event programme with $4.3 million in total prize money on offer making it the biggest race day of the year in Queensland.
The Magic Millions Graduate Race Day is headlined by the $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m).
A set weights showdown, the Magic Millions 2YO Classic attracts the best juvenile colts, geldings and fillies that are Magic Millions graduates, and has a field limit of 16 starters plus five emergencies.
The 2010 Magic Millions 2YO Classic was won by the Gillian Heinrich-trained Military Rose from Ambers Waltz with Demanding Miss in third.
One two-year-old heading towards the 2011 Magic Millions Classic is the Mick Tubman-trained filly Karuta Queen after the daughter of Not A Single Doubt maintained her unbeaten record with a win in the Wyong Magic Millions 2YO Classic on December 5.
The other highlight race of the day is the $1 million Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m), contested by a capacity field of 16 three-year-old Magic Millions-purchased runners.
In 2010 Graceful Anna scored victory in the Magic Millions 3YO Trophy, renamed for 2011 as the Guineas.
The 2011 Magic Millions Guineas is expected to attract runners including the Kelso Wood-trained Man From Oz and Gai Waterhouse’s talented colt Squamosa.
Nominations for the Magic Millions Race Day features will be taken this Friday, December 10.
The Magic Millions final fields will then be released on the 11th and 12th of January, 2011.
